Technical FAQs

Q: How does the License Agreement Impact Technical Support?

A: Beginning on April 1st, you can find and resolve technical inquires through Abcam (www.abcam.com). We have worked hard with our new partner to ensure your research won’t be interrupted.

Q: How do I contact the Scientific Support team for technical support and inquiries?

A: Beginning on April 1st, you can find and resolve technical inquires through Abcam (www.abcam.com). We have worked hard with our new partner to ensure your research won’t be interrupted.

Q: Where can I find a product datasheet? Is the information on the datasheet up-to-date?

A: Our datasheets can be found on our website under each product description. It is available as a PDF file under the header ‘Product Specification Sheet’. Product datasheets for antibody products are the same for any configuration sold (0.1ml, 0.5ml, 1.0ml and 7ml RTU).

Q: Where can I find additional resources about Spring products?

A: There are publications, safety datasheets (SDS), and protocols for the Discovery XT platform available for viewing and download.

Q: Where can I find a Certificate of Analysis (CofA) for a product?

A: Please email Abcam’s Technical Support team with product name, catalog number and lot number for this inquiry.

Q: What if I am experiencing technical issues with a product?

A: Beginning on April 1st, you can find and resolve technical inquires through Abcam (www.abcam.com). We have worked hard with our new partner to ensure your research won’t be interrupted.
For your convenience we have created a technical complaint form available for download.

Q: What if I am experiencing non-technical issues with a product or order?

A: Beginning on April 1st, you can find and resolve technical inquires through Abcam (www.abcam.com). We have worked hard with our new partner to ensure your research won’t be interrupted.

Product Specific Inquiries

Antibodies
Q: Are Spring antibodies purified? What methods are used to purify Spring antibodies?

A: Polyclonal antibodies are sold as an immunoaffinity purified product. Monoclonal antibodies are sold either as tissue culture supernatant or as a Protein A/G purified product. Custom orders requesting purification of monoclonal antibodies sold as tissue culture supernatant are purified using Protein A/G. Specific information for any product can be found on the product datasheet.

Q: What concentration of BSA is in my product? What concentration of Sodium Azide is in my product?

A: Unless a custom order is requested or the datasheet states otherwise, all products contain 1.0% BSA and >0.1% of Sodium Azide.

Q: What is the concentration of my purified antibody?

A: Please email Abcam’s Technical Support team with antibody name, catalog number and lot number for this inquiry.

Q: What is the concentration of my tissue culture supernatant?

A: We do not routinely determine the concentration of tissue culture supernatant. Typically the concentration of tissue culture supernatant is between 10-50ug/ml.

Q: Is this antibody tested in another application or species?

A: All the applications and species we have tested and validated will be stated on the product datasheet.

If you decide to purchase a product for use in an untested/unvalidated application we are unable to guarantee that an antibody will work for your desired purpose.

Q: How can I determine the predicted species reactivity or percent homology of an antibody with an untested species?

A: Please email Abcam’s Technical Support team with antibody name, catalog number and desired species for this inquiry. A percent homology will be provided through comparison of the antibody’s immunogen sequence and desired species.

Q: How can I determine whether my antibody would react with an untested species?

A: It is not guaranteed that an antibody will work in an untested species, even if the sequence alignment is high. There are many variables involved in determining whether an antibody will bind in another species.

If there are no alternatives available, and it is necessary for you to consider purchasing an antibody for use in a species that is not tested, we recommend checking the sequence alignment of the immunogen with the protein you are interested in.

Q: What tissues can I use with Spring antibodies?

A: Spring antibodies are only validated for use on Formalin-Fixed, Paraffin-Embedded tissues. The recommended and validated positive control tissues are stated on the product datasheet.

Q: Are you able to provide the immunogen sequence for this antibody?

A: Immunogen sequences are considered confidential and proprietary information. However, we can provide an amino acid range for the immunogen sequence. Please email Abcam’s Technical Support team with antibody name and catalog number for this inquiry.

Q: Why was this antibody discontinued? Can I get more of this antibody?

A: We sometimes have to discontinue a product; this could be done for several reasons. If we have a suggestion for a replacement antibody, we will supply the catalog number upon your inquiry of the discontinued antibody. Always check to ensure that the alternative antibody is suitable for your application and species. If not, please search our catalog for another suitable alternative.

Q: How should I store my antibody?

A: Store at 2-8°C. Do not freeze. The user must validate any other storage conditions. When properly stored, the reagent is stable to the date indicated on the label. Do not use the reagent beyond the expiration date.

Q: Where can I find a recommended protocol?

A: Our standard QC IHC protocol can be found on the product datasheet. The following items are used for antibody diluent, antigen retrieval and detection*:

IHC Protocol Step Product Name Catalog Number Available Sizes
Antibody Dilution Antibody Diluent ADS-125 125ml
Antigen Retrieval Citrate Buffer DCBX-050 50ml
EDTA Buffer DEBX-050 50ml
Visualization Polyvalent HRP DAB kit TPD-015 15ml
Reveal Biotin-Free Rb Specific DAB Kit SRD-015, SRD-060, SRD-125 15ml, 60ml, 125ml

*Please refer to protocol on product datasheet for product specific recommendations.

Q: What is the suitable use for the Ready-to-Use (RTU) format of your antibody products?

A: The RTU format of our antibody products have been pre-diluted to a product specific recommended dilution. They are intended for use with our recommended manual/semi-manual IHC protocol (protocol available on product datasheet).

Q: Which antibody format (concentrate or ready-to-use) should I buy if I want to use it on a Ventana research platform?

A: We recommend the concentrate format of our antibodies over the ready-to-use format. The concentrate format would allow for greater ease of optimization. Typically, our antibodies need to be run 2-4X more concentrated than the recommended dilution on our datasheet to compensate for the inherent dilution that occurs on the Ventana research platforms.

Q: Is it possible to order a custom configuration of an antibody?

A: We can supply custom configurations of most of our antibody products. Please email Abcam’s Customer Support team with your preferences on buffers (ex. with or without BSA, Sodium Azide or Glycerol) and concentration range for pricing information and lead times.

Detection and Ancillary Products

Q: How many tests can my detection kit perform?

A: The number of tests that our kits can stain is dependent on how much volume is used per slide, which depends on the size of tissue sections. In-house we use 200ul of each reagent included in the kits per slide. If 200ul/slide is assumed, the 15ml, 60ml and 125ml kits are suitable for staining 75, 300 and 625 slides, respectively.
